Day 34: Time's Up

Updated: Nov 24, 2024

And just like that, 34 days in Medellin comes to a close. It's been a calm few days... well that is, up until today arriving at the airport.

Last days at school were bittersweet. I really enjoyed learning Spanish and in both environments, the conversational and workbook ways. They are both fully necessary to incorporate the language. I came here after years of being upset I could not speak past tense, and I ended learning and retaining all 4 tenses! So Now I am B level (to them, not to me). Still takes a lot of thought to speak in the proper tense.

Did my last day of Bachata since I missed both dance classes last week due to COVID. We finally learned how to actually move our waist and arms. I am so retarded at it - I don't have hips (people say I do) so I cannot harness that energy that way. My ass, now that I know!

Packing was difficult- I ended up leaving a lot behind including cat food, pajamas and sneakers (that were staying anyways).

Now the ICA and airport. That was a crazy experience. My driver cost me 90.000 pesos to drive from Medellin here (30-60 mins depending on traffic), but then I wait in line for 20-30 mins at the counter, they do all my paperwork and print out the ticket, take my luggage, and then say I need to go downstairs to get the cat stuff signed. I go downstairs where the ICA arrivals is, but they won't let me in since it's a security check. The guy tells me I have to go upstairs but explained they told me to come downstairs. So then they said I have to go to the other building and get in a taxi. Great, so I literally just spent all my cash this morning and no taxi wanted to do CC. The guy helping me got a taxi man who said he'd take me everywhere for 30.000- and guess what, then he gringo'd me and doubled it saying it was each way once we were done. He had no change himself and I was just done with dealing with it, my impatience got the best of me to argue that - in the end, it was $15 Back home, I lose $100 and don't know - and that is like a whole day's work for him- so even though I am mad at being taken advantage, he needed it more than I did.

Let's move on.

My cat is healthy - my cat is with me - and her documents passed. We are going home.

What can I really complain about?
