Last Monk at the Monastery

Updated: May 11

Breakfast was really nominal today. Left out at 8am. Headed to Meteroa on the beautiful rocks.

The rocks and view were the best.

We went to 2 monasteries: one monk and one nun.

Apparently, this is a life choice for each person. There used to be 24 up here living and now there are 6- and 1 monastery has only 1 monk left in there. So lonely, So isolated.

Visiting inside was pretty boring for a non-religious person though - I can't relate or leads to judging (due to the wars created by the religion and theft to increase their wealth). There were lots of gold, diamonds & stones in the monk's homes, although it was not so glamorous for the nuns with the exception of more flowers and gardens (natural beauty).

And of course, more cats and dogs.

90% of Greeks are Orthodox Christian. The girls I met are Muslims from Malaysia so I learned a little bit since I got to ask questions. Biggest understanding was that Muslim is the people and Islam Is the religion. Seems stupid that I didn't know that, right? But that's why I travel. That's why I ask.

Stopped by a rest stop for a traditional lunch.

Great to have selections. Can't use the WC on board the bus since, apparently, the government closed their use due to COVID. Even though multiple people coughing up a storm and there is no mask mandate anymore. But ok.

Greeks apparently stay at home until about 30 years old when they are ready to marry. Mothers even still wash their clothes.

Another thing to note is, the Greeks have distinctive hair. Straight and wild.

Bittersweet moment having my new friends leave me.

I'm not a good-bye person so I Know I could come off as awkward during the exit.

Dropped my luggage off back at the room and headed for dinner and wine tasting.

I love when I'm back comfortable in a city- things just flow better.

Had a Greek Risotto w/ Shrimp 3.5/6 at a nearby restaurant And followed it with a wine tasting. The place I chose just so happened to be owned by a California musician who moved here after Berlin. His mom is Greek- I also got to speak some Spanish to some patrons who came by.

I'll have to add names of restaurants & foods later once I consolidate the photos.

Just waiting for the hot water.....
