Working in Leticia

Beautiful morning to wake up to in this Air B&B- but the parrots. Ay! They come in the hundreds or thousands and are so loud at 5 am! For at least 1-2 hours. Now I know why other countries are trying to eradicate them. They are invasive, intrusive and destroying vegetation. Here, in the jungle, this is where they belong so, squawk on!

Breakfast was cheap- not worth the money spent for it. I didn't complain though. Studied, took a nap and met with Lady Daniela and the other Vet to meet Claudia at the shelter and then the restaurant Tierras Amazonas for lunch. The rescue was HOT. Although shielded from the sun and elements, the dogs are laying down and panting with no fans anywhere in sight. Many have mange and no treatment, the others had Ehrlichia and being treated with a penicillin. I brought boxes of Clavamox (I could have had more stuff but didn't know the situation).

Lunch was good. It's so much more helpful for me to practice Spanish when spoken to in Spanglish-gets me to pick up on some words and then they slow down to talk in English.

Tierras Amazonas

Got in a Tuktuk for 10.000 COP and headed to the airport. Long lines, no online check-in and yet I had to pay. I'll call Copa about that too- so they know the issue and not subject us to their unknowns. Also, we sat there forever and the CC machine didn't work. A headache- 30.000 COP & luckily I had in cash. Anything in this small isolated city, have CASH!

About to take off now- I have a row to myself again so can watch the Amazones below as we pass over 🙂. Unfortunately, it wasn't as "jungle" as I'd expect. Just trees and vast amounts of them. They talk about rainforest destruction and I didn't see any of that. Granted- I'm happy about that though.

Landed back to Medellin with Maurice, a new driver- he was great and I'm now back to the lively scene of Laureles- music is going, lights are on people are eating.

And home to my baby Serenity.
