Blending in as a Paisa (from Medellin)

Well, I decided to forgo the gym today- give my body a rest, take a nap and try to learn past tense. I finally understand the premise BUT I can't put it in action.

So I mapped out and headed over to the Panorama rooftop bar to get some ideal food and drink. Good vibes, great cocktail creations.

Wanna know how to blend in Medellin?

1. Sneakers-Always wear sneakers. And not brand new ones but still brand name. Don't bring your dingy sneakers here- they have a good eye for products. But note it's rainy here so you will need a backup pair if they get muddy or wet.

2. Short sleeves all day but bring a hoodie (maybe a little too American) or light jacket. The mornings can be chilly although by 10 am, you are stripping that top layer off.

3. No hats! This is mainly for females. Men can get away with a dingy baseball cap or even a sombrero (ie. cowboy hat).

4. No American t-shirts or sweatshirts

5. Capris or jeans! Avoid shorts, but you can when on group tours. Sundresses are usually for dinner only. Loose beach pants for men or women are good (ie. think Cuban fashion). But still, avoid sandals and flops-it's also a safety concern. The streets are slippery and you will slip just walking on a sidewalk.

6. If you wear make-up, no lashes and be light with face coverage.

Now that I've been around the area, the most 'exciting' area for Laurates is situated around the Premier Parque- and in either direction, you can go about 3 blocks and find good food, good drinks and entertainment. It definitely reminds me of Poblado there although Poblado's central scene is larger and more Americans. Here, there are less Americans but you can still get the comfort. I would like to return here and see what it looks like during tourist season.
