Colombia Intel, First Day at School

Updated: Apr 16

Waking up at sunrise at 6:30 am. I love it if I make it, because I can start my day earlier but it gets dark around here at 6pm!

Anyways, now is the beginning of the work week- no more weekend, election or holiday disruptions. Got my coffee, headed to do 2-hours of private classes, then the gym, lunch and back to school for group classes.

My luck, chaos will ensue. I never really had these problems until I met a guy I dated named Sean about 1.5 y ago. I'm just saying, he nicknamed me "Chaotic Dria" and spoke it into existence.

But ha! So far so good. I started private classes at 9am, made it to the gym at Evolution for 11:30 am, showered in the sink smh and now at Domo d'Oro at 2p which is a full cat-friendly restaurant.

Domo d'Oro

Soda Magica 3/5

Spinach Ravioli 3/5 (no super flavorful, pretty watery sauce)

So if you missed my 2022 blog (and go check it out by-the-way)- Colombia has these sodas that have the essence of fruits- no major sweetness is actually added to them. They are called Soda Sabonizadas and I love them. So Soda Magica is one of them.

Other Colombia take-aways:

For electrical outlets, you can use a regular USA plug, no need to convert.

Ask when in the countryside if you can toss paper in the toilet. Sewerage is common in Colombia, but not everywhere and that includes some places in major cities. But if you don't want to ask for whatever reason (or forget to), just put your paper in trash basket. Yes! Even if it's #2.

Always be ready for rain. I travel with an umbrella no matter where I go.

Mosquitos are not common in the valley but they are in the countryside. Luckily, they aren't really itchy bites. You may notice a mark the next day but rarely do you feel the bite or get irritated for a couple of days. And that's me saying that who is actually allergic to mosquito bites (more so than a normal person).

Well, I made great timing today. Ended up finding Carrera 73, a shopping haven. Has to be about 7 stores there with quality clothes that I would spend money at. I've been waiting to come back to get jeans and pants. Colombian jeans fit my shape- long abdomen, round butt, small legs. So clothes fit without the extremely tight legs nor tight around the belly (or crotch). High waisted is common and so is the highwater look. Then, for pants, wide leg is the way to go. High or low waisted, long and breathable. All for $40 max. Great long-lasting material although I'm a little particular and I dry clean all my jeans now.

Before class, I walked to get a pastry then to Mr. Fox Spanish school.

It's actually a very nice building and it's next to a police station! Class was interesting. I am in level B1 with 3 other people -2 who were here at least for a week prior. We just kind of started without an explanation or introduction so Conditional Simple was thrown out and I was like WTF. I looked completely lost. Had to research on my own in class then it made sense. But then for sentences, She wanted us to discuss in pairs about the sentence. Like, explain it.

Me: Explain what?

So I was useless, but I get the work. I just need to speak. And one student is French- the worst for me. I cannot understand a word she is saying. Her accent is thick and then she speaks softly like a mouse. The French accent is just so foreign to me.

For dinner, I walked over to Cafe Cliche while getting the notice the gas was off at the apt, thus no hot water. Great! The restaurant was cute and I'd return for brunch one day.
