Day 26: Frustration with Spanish and infected with COVID

Updated: May 29, 2023

So Monday wasn't too bad. Was able to go to class, a new guy here, had the same teacher, Nelson BUT Francisco came in to teach for the majority of the time. Really enjoyed it as he speaks slower and clearer. I had told him that I feel like I am losing my understanding of Spanish now so he wanted to come and try. Today, we had a new professor (as requested) and she was good. I went to a second class after that for the first time and it was a very exciting class with exciting discussions. What I enjoyed about Olsa is that they focus on allowing you to speak and finish. They will correct you on major things, but not little things so you get to just learn how to not keep stopping and second guessing your words. You can speak and, although it may not be 100% correct, someone can understand you. Now at Total, they are heavy on grammar. It's a good and bad. All the rules don't allow you to freely speak and it's hard to form sentences after you leave because you are stuck on that particular tense during class. In my private classes, I have been able to have a more free experience, BUT TODAY!!! I got sooooo frustrated. Everything that came out of my mouth was corrected and so I could not finish a sentence. And I no longer wanted to use the sentence because it's been manipulated with so much, it's no longer mine and I am not learning, so just change it up, but I change it and the next sentence gets completely broken down. I hardly could remember the city I was currently in, seriously. I sat there for a good 30 seconds with nothing.

Anyways, I took the COVID test today again since I was negative Fri but dude texted me last night and said he WAS positive (and the other guys have not shown back up to class). So I tested later that day, I got the POSITIVE results. Funny enough, I am at Day 5 anyways, so I started walking down the street and started to realize I wasn't running from people! I used to try not to walk where people are coughing etc. Now I am like (in my head) gallopping down the street like "hey, you coughed and I don't care because I already have COVID, how you doin?" - free as a bird!

Dark thoughts, yes. But yep, I am enjoying recently COVID infected city life. Granted, yes, I wear my mask when inside - enough that Total got scared and asked why I was all of a sudden although the POSITIVE result wasn't there yet.

One thing I wanted to bring up- these damn lights! So Colombia's street lights, whether for pedestrians or for cars, there is no yellow light. A flashing green light means your ass better run or stop, because as soon as it is stops and turns red, the green light already flicked for the oncoming traffic and you about to get smashed! So trick of crossing the street in Medellin, if it is flashing, just stop! It ain't no joke and it flashes maybe 5 or 8 times before you've lost your chance.
